Show off your Red sex-links!! [[pictures included]] !! (:

Pictures of Lucky. She is 11 days old :) She is feathering out as a SS on the wings. But her head/face is really red so I suspect those feathers will come in more of a redish color.

So cute!!!

Lucky reminds me of Sunshine my chicken in my avatar.

I love her, her hatch were supposed to be kept for meat/eggs but since she is only survivor she will be kept no matter is she ends up crowing or not :) I can't wait to see what she looks like in another week!

I have a Rose Comb Rhode Island White, not a RSL, that was to be sold when he was young but he was so friendly and loved to be held that my husband wouldn't let me sell him. He was named Lucky. When Lucky was around 7 months old I entered him in a poultry show. He did very well and got Best of Breed and Best Variety, so we kept him as a breeding male. He doesn't like to be held anymore but will be with us for the rest of his life.

Is it just me, or all young chicken's feet yellow? By the way, I love Gloria! Kinda looks like my Betsy! Betsy is getting old though.

Not all breeds but a lot of them.
Some of these birds are my Red Sex-Links that I got from a cross of some Single Comb Rhode Island White females and a Heritage Rhode Island Red male. They look like Red Sex-Links but the red is darker like the Heritage Rhode Island Red. It will be interesting to see what they look like as they continue to mature. They come up to the fence when they see me because they are waiting for some treats.

These are some of my older Heritage Rhode Island Reds females with a younger male.

Pictures of Lucky I got today. You can see her redish color more clear in these photos. She is starting to get some wing feathers. Can't wait to see what she looks like next week. She is 6 days old.

The Silkie hatched Thursday. But it is a special needs chicken so I have them beside each other but separated for right now. The silkie has a missing eye and a cross beak. Waiting for it to eat and drink on its own and to grow a bit before i put them together. They are talking back and forth though, so cute!

Please don't be upset with me but you will likely have to cull the little Silkie. I have had a couple of chicks over the years that had a missing eye and crossed beak. My experience has been the cross beak got worse as the chicks grew and they were pullets. I tried to file the beak to make it come together better but it was a loosing battle. They did eat but were behind. One died and the other I ended up culling as it was too far behind and I was more concerned that it wouldn't have a good quality of life. It couldn't get up on a roost that was low for it and slept on the floor of the coop. My roosts all have wire under them so the poop falls through and easier to clean as I can rake it out from outside the coop. It would always get under the other birds and get pooped on even if I moved it it would eventually go back to the same spot so I thought it was kinder to cull it. I had it in a cage by itself for awhile but decided that it wasn't right to keep it in the cage.

Well it looks liek she Does have an right eye, But it isn't fully formed like her ther eye. No idea if she can even see out of it.

Her Good eye, nice full and reactive.

The eye in question. See how its small compared to the other. Like it never fully formed. This is as far as it openes. Looks just lik it did at hatch. I assume she can close it or it would have dried out by now?

Either way we are going to see how she is in a few days. Then decide from there if we should cull her or not.

Her beak doesn't look too bad. You could try to file it to make it more even.
