same eggs in both pics. This was their 3rd day laying, The eggs are now darker and most speckled. I'll try to take pics today of ours, They've been laying 1-2/day per hen! We are averaging 18-19 per week for 2 hens! Best $10 ever spent for a started pol pullet!

I get some like that too. My Sex-Links are usually the ones that lay the darker colored eggs.

The white egg in the upper left corner is from one of my Leghorns but I get all shades of brown eggs.

Chicks will take various naps but do not sleep the whole night. They will get up various times to eat and drink which they need at all times. And they are never gonna get full naps either since others wilk be moving around.

Simoly having ut dark in the room could cause them to panic....Chickens have night blindness and these chicks just do not need all dark yet...

The chicks nap off and on night and day regardless of the light. The lights I use are used primarily as a heat source. They eat, drink and poop throughout the days and nights. The do not move if the light burns out, which is rare the light bulb burns out but it has happened. They just kind of freeze in place and as soon as I change the light bulb they are active again once there is light. They don't sleep at night like the older birds do.
