Show off your roosts!

I can't post a pic, as I have dial-up, but can describe my roost. I found some long poles under my old henhouse that the original folks used for pole beans. They are thick and strong. I nailed two of them into a V shape with several cross-braces to connect the two longer sides. These cross pieced (the roosts) are out of the same material, thick bean poles. The whole frame leans into the corner of the henhouse and braces against a 2x4 ledge that was already there. I just put 2 long nails on either side of the point (imagine an inverted "V") to stabilize the structure. When I want to clean underneath this, I just lift it up and lean it somewhere else until I clean out that corner. Fits neatly back into the nails. Provides roosting for approximately 25 hens, if needed. It fits the rustic old building that is my henhouse and the hens like it just fine.

And aloha to you, too!

Here are my girls. They all love to fight for that upper roost....and to be the one on the far right.

They have a regular habit of how they get up. The last two up are the two on the bottom.... they stay there all night.

This may be a dumb question, but is there any reason why the roost has to be wood. We have some old tree stand ladders made of metal. The polls are about 1" squares. We these be too slippery or cold?
