and they are ALL big babies like that. even if i don't handle them much in the brooder, they sit and stare at me and jump up in my hand. they are just awesome.
i have to say, i highly recommend them for showmanship simply because they are easily handled.
so glad they are working out well for you, Scraps! of course, i just knew they would!
mine are really the sweetest birds. They are so laid back and they don't spook like the others. You ahve ot watch them when you leave the coop so you don't shut them in the door because they follow you around like dogs. The pics aren't really good but you can see their dark color.
ya i love that color... much better than the production RIR... what kind of egg production do y'all get from your hens???
The color of the good RIR's is something like no other that Deep Rich Red color and the hens with that ticking in there lower neck feather makes them look like they have a little green necklace on.. I think the Production or Industrial reds that the some hatcheries are selling as RIR's do no justice to a good RIR form a breeder..
My RIR's (Rose Combs and Single Combs) lay farly well. I get 5 to 7 per week per hen in the spring/summer ( April thru September ). In the "off months" I get around 2 to 4 per hen per week..
