Show off your Welsummers!

I ordered a rare breed assortment and I'm fairly certain one of them is a Welsummer. I've never heard of them before so I would love to see some pictures of them please!!

Oh hey Jessa! Nice to meet you @Ndahly. wow, that is a lucky find! If you post a picture, I could help tell you if it really is a Welsummer. Like Jessa said, I do have 12 Welsummers, and I love them! They are extremely friendly. Wonderful foragers, and great free rangers. We got ours for tick control, and so far they have done a great job. They lay dark brown speckly eggs (I havnt gotten any eggs yet, but hopefully in a few months!) and around 250 a year is what I hear. They don’t handle confinement super well, so not the best option if you have them in a run, but they will probably do ok. Welsummers rarely go broody, and aren’t knows to be the best mothers. The roosters are Stunning tho! They are also an autosexing breed. So you can tell it’s gender really early. A Male feathers in with a black chest, and a female with a brown. Ah interesting, thanks for all the info on them! I'll get a better picture tomorrow of her. But it does make sense about them not handling confinement, because right now everyone's in a coop as they're just 5 weeks old. But she has exposed a few weaknesses lol and keeps getting out! Once they're used to being outside they will be able to free range so I'm sure she will enjoy that more!

Haha oh no!
It's very possible thats what I have going on too! I came to the conclusion it's a welsummer before I joined this awesome group. So I'll get a picture tomorrow and we will see!

I have 10 welsummers (all females) and they are just some of the most friendly chickens I have. I have a bunch of young chicks right now and out of all of them the welsummers are the ones that’ll come running up to me while all the others hang back. I definitely recommend them for beginners or experienced chicken owners.
