Show quality percentage ???

Rock N' Faverolles :

The general rule is, 1 out of 10 is a good bird; 1 out of 100 a great show bird; and 1 out of a 1000 a phenomenal show bird.

Within this, the mastery is knowing which one of those thousand, is the awesome showbird. It doesnt serve much purpose to produce one if you dont know what you have when you get it.

I think that is what separates the wheat from the chaff in terms of breeders.

Once you establish your line(which can take years), it becomes consistant, your odds of hatching show potenital birds will go up. It takes hard work, carefully selecting your breeding stock and lots of culling to get a consistant show line.

When you're hatching breeds that are slow maturing like I am for the most part, it's nerve racking everytime I cull my young birds down in number wondering if I'm selling off one I should have kept. With some it's very obvious that they'll never grow into what I'm wanting, but with others it's much harder.

Prolly most likely the quality of the lines you have will reflect the number of Exhibition Quality birds you produce. I know there are Orp breeders who only have to hatch out 2 or 3 dozen eggs to get enough to reload for the coming year. Other breeders will breed hundreds to just get 10 good ones. Depending on the breed, the breeder lines, I'd say IF your looking for an average Exhibition Quality breeders lines and what they expect, prolly 1 outta 20 and your doing great!
