show quality standards?

They do the strangest things. Everytime I go outback to where they are, they all rush up to me, tails waggin’ and looking for some yummies. It never gets old for me. Gosh! I love ‘em!

Most breeds have clubs with websites that list the standard. Also the livestock conservancy's website lists standards on many of the individual breed pages. The Pekin link is for the UK standards, but it will still give you an idea. I don't know what is opened around your area with covid, but if you can I think the best way to learn would be to go to the local poultry shows and fairs. Take note of conformation and color patterns of the ducks that have won vs. those that didn't. All of the shows I have been to the owners are near by and love to talk about their ducks which is a prime time to ask your questions.

I'd look into local 4H groups (under 18) or local fairs or shows (check facebook!) And while they may be cancelled for obvious reasons now they could connect you to others who show locally! If you want I can take screenshots of my APA 2010 standard of perfection for those breeds, although do know that unless you birds from a show quality breeder (not hatchery or backyard breeder, doesn't make them bad birds just not usually winners!!) I won with my Welsummer who was a feedstore bird but I gotta say she was a remarkable bird and I haven't seen a showable hatchery bird since. Showing can be fun, but know that it can also be a lot of work!

You might want to go to an APA sanctioned show, or two. It will give you a good idea as to what to look for. While there, you can pick up the SOP (Standard Of Perfection) book. Usually, if anyone tries to post any information from the SOP book, it will be removed. It's copyrighted, and they're strict about it.

Miss Piggy and Porky our two little Mallard hens came from a private breeder who boasted about her Mallards receiving best of show. Meant nothing to me at the time, but I would be very curious to see if these little girls carry on those awesome Mallard traits.

what do you mean by biosecurity?

mine are very used to going places, meeting new animals, and evening dressing up. i don’t think a show would stress them out at all.
