Hey everyone!
Ok, for context, my hens eating their eggs is something new. Now, there's a possibility that they've done it in the past but I feel like it's really ramped up over the last two weeks.
Here's the go...I live on the east coast of Canada (as far east as you can get!) and we got ABSOLUTELY destroyed with snow over the last 2 weeks. I'm talking like, 4 1/2 feet of snow! Legit, no jokes! Here's a picture of what our run looks like (coop is on the left).
So, I seriously think they're bored. There's no where to go for them, they can't forage and I'm convinced they've got massive cabin-fever.
I've tried golf-balls, ping pong balls; I've tried mustard inside a hollowed-out egg (to my surprise they ate it all up). They have access to plenty of food and water. I'm also going to try and purchase like, 2 dozen wooden eggs and just place them EVERYWHERE in the coop/nesting boxes to try and deter and confuse them for when an actual egg drops.
Anyway, /rantover.
I don't know what else I can do outside of wait for spring and the snow starts melting. I could try and segregate the troublesome hen but, unfortunately, I can't figure out which one (or if all) are eating their eggs.
Any thoughts?
