Show Quality?

L&Schickens :

Well, I don't think we will be doing any shows this year. I just found out my husband might be going to Iraq.

We will not know until some time next month, I guess. They are pressing the "Volunteer or else" card on him. He will be gone for 18 months if he is selected to go. I have been an Army wife for 16 years but at the same time, never had to deal with him leaving for a long time or going over seas.
I have some thinking to do I guess.
I am glad I have my son and our chickens to make my life full of surprises and keep me occupied.

I guess we will see how he looks, as well as some others I have, next year.

Thanks for the coments.

Tell him to take the "or else". The Army (which she loves, BTW) does that to her all the time and she ends up getting scr**ed. She recently told her CO, "I'm not volunteering for any more missions. YOu'll have to give me involuntary orders."

As for the showing...go for it if you can. He'll love it and be so proud that he accomplished this.

Thanks for the help. It really helped about the comb points. That was perfect information, as I had not look at the breed standard. I guess I should do that.
Black Velvet is our only Dutch Bantam and I let Loren know about the comb problem. BTW, yes, he is a rooster. He chases the girls (2 seabrights and a bantam cochin) and he crows all the time.

We have some other birds he can show that I think are better, but Black Velvet is his favorite at the moment.
I had planned to try to get him into a few shows this summer, but now that our lives might be drastically changing, I don't think I am up to it this year. Loren will be starting school in September and we will have a lot going on then too.
So, if my husband does go off to Iraq for 18 months, I will be very unhappy. But maybe next summer will be a better time to try and show poultry. Every day when my husband comes home, I am in pins and needles waiting for him to tell me the news. So far, he has got his second notice, but has not volunteered yet. I hope he doesn't but he also has to do what he feels is the right thing to do.
Thanks for the comments. They have been helpful.
