Show us your nest boxes! Ingenous design post it here!

Lol This is my nest box XD
It works, and one of my hens is setting on eggs. We have chicks growing! What's funny is that even the rooster likes to sit on the eggs, and he's kind to them. Haha
((Not all the eggs in the picture were viable. We discarded the bad ones. And the cardboard box is just temporary. I've got a nice coop in the building process currently.))
This is not conducive to a good hatch...best get another box for your other hens and mark the viable eggs under broody, removing any new ones daily.

Sure cardboard boxes can work, biggest issue can be when they jump on the side and tip the whole ting over...often on top of themselves.

Oh, no worries. Just temporary. I moved the other hen and rooster out, so the broody hen is by herself. She does good about getting in/out of box. The eggs are marked, and are at different stages of development. After the first 1-2 chicks are born I will put the rest of the eggs into an incubator to finish hatching, as I know she will abandon the late ones.

Since my last post, you can see the big white nest boxes on the shelf. There is another shelf next to it.
I took just Hay and made 3 indents for a nest. They like it better and don't use the white boxes at all.
But now they like ONE nest and will wait in line to get in there... unless they HAVE to lay THAT SECOND, they will go in the hay one next to it.

This was a shelf in an old shed, I laid it on it's side and added hay and perch. the first and last nest are the most popular ones.

Would it be possible to get the measurements and kind of wood you used? Or the plans would be even better! This is just what I am looking to make. Thanks!
That member hasn't been around for a couple years....but it looks like a combo of dimensional lumber and plywood, sizing is built around what bins you find to use.

Wow! This thread has been around for quite awhile! I'm loving all the ideas. I only got as far as page 18 before I just had to see what year it stopped. So glad to see its still going, sort of. :love:pop

I love the idea of buckets and such but have a question.
I happened to be looking in at exactly the moment when one of my gals dropped her egg right in front of me. I was surprised to see she was standing up, kinda stretching slightly when it happened. Wouldn't restricting the height of the nest impair their ability to lay comfortably?

Yes, IMO...but many use the buckets successfully.
I tried 'em...even my smallest pullet chose a larger nest(14x14x16high).
