Showgirl thread- for posting pictures and discussing breed!

you have breed those showgirls to silkies with dark combs and keep showgirl babies out that to breed to silkies again it could take 2 generation it could take 5

Hi, I was wondering if someone could explain how to get rid of red combs in SG? I have 3 I hatched out, one hen and two Roos, I think. They are almost 13 weeks old. It's raining here so I will post pics later. They all have red combs and wattles. If I match them up with a silkie hen with black, how many generations will will I have to breed, and how do I go about it, to end up with black combs and wattles. They are beautiful, no doubt. They have great crests that are already very large. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Here are some pics of them:

This one is the only bearded and bowtied baby I got. Pretty sure he is a Roo. It is very windy here today!!!

This one I think is a hen. Love the pic on top. The closeup shows that she also has yellow eye rings......

This one is probably a Roo. They are not old enough to breed yet. Hopefully by late Spring? maybe....

I agree, You need to find a very dark skinned Silkie Rooster. One that has not been color mixed. I find that silkies that are mixed in color, can through lighter blue skin. Take your time and be picky..

Thanks. When I find a good dark skinned Silkie to breed them back to, I take the best of the offspring and breed back to the dark skinned one? Does is matter if it is parent to sibling mate? I am new to all this and am just getting my feet wet with SG. But, omg, they are so cute!!!!

you take best showgirl offspring breed them back to silkies at this point dont want do brother and sister mateing and i would sell all silkie babies out of these hatches as pets there not going to im prove any thing. i could contenue breed showgirl to silkie till you get darker combs and skin
