I would love to start showing chickens i am new to Georgia, and dont know how to begin so here are my questions

1. How do you get started (Where do i go)
2.How do i know if my bird is Show Quailty

Any other information would be great!

Thanks!

1. Look up and contact local breed clubs, 4H clubs, FFA, Department of Agriculture for your state and any local Agriculture places you can think of (not feed stores).

2. You really should purchase a "Standard of Perfection" by the American Poultry Association. Each breed has it's own "standard" and the closer the bird is to the standard, the more desirable it is, at least in the world of fancy poultry. The black and white version is $14.00 and is available online here:

The SOP (Standard of Perfection) gives the standard for the poultry in it. No bird will ever be perfect, but each breeder that breeds toward the standard strives for that elusive perfection.

Go to a show that is sanctioned by the American Poultry Association and look for the oldest, hardest and ugliest men at the show. Chances are, they've got good birds and are more than willing to help you get information about the breeds you're interested in. If they can't, then ask for the superintendent and that person will be able to get you someone.
