Has anyone shown ducks or geese in the US? Are there any good sites about what you have to do to show? Required type of identification, any health checks?
I haven't found many sites that talk about showing ducks, just chickens. However, the important points are the same:
*Get your birds used to being handled before the show.
*Make sure they're clean (so easy with ducks, just give them clean swimming water for a couple of days prior!)
*No external parasites (again, not usually an issue with waterfowl)
*Trim those toenails, if needed (I'm referring to the birds' toenails here, but if yours need trimming, this wouldn't be a bad time to take care of that)
*They'll need a numbered leg band. Any kind is fine, but the numbers on the show coop tag and the bird need to match.
*Look at your state's Dept. of Agriculture website to see what health requirements are for your state. You'll probably need a Pullorum/Typhoid Certificate at a minimum.
Hopefully, someone from your state will chime in with more specifics.
