What are your thoughts on showing birds in county fairs? Our local county fair is next week and they have a youth poultry show. My birds are by no means the prettiest, but I thought it would be fun for my boys to enter our cockerel in the youth poultry show. A friend expressed concern about the bird getting diseases at the fair and bringing them home to the rest of the flock. He would only be there for a few hours. I'm not sure if she has a valid argument or is just being mean. What are your thoughts?

Absolutely valid point. Are you able and willing to quarantine him for 2-4 Weeks afterwards? It would be fun and they could learn alot but is it worth it for 15 minutes of showing?

greetings im new to this site and just found this topic iam an exhibitor at fairs in southern il and show a large number of birds in my opinion the disease issue depends on a few factors 1. are all of the exhibitors ametuer exhibitors meaning if this is the only time they show and the birds there for just a few hours i would not be concerned but if some of those exhibitors have been to several fairs or have a flock that has been vaccinated with in 4 weeks of the show the odds of a problem are slim to none i assume that being a 4 h show that there will be no profesinal stringmen there i would say from past experience your biggest concern should be the possibilty of lice or mites and a dose of adams flrea and tick spray will cure that problem
