Hey guys (and gals)!

I am wanting to show my ducks at a fair but they would only be 4 months by then. Would that be cutting it too close? I would probably only show my WH and Cayuga.

What should I do about getting ready for the show? Or should I just pack them up and head out?

Any tips would be great!

Thanks! (I will put some pics up later)

I've never shown so don't know for sure. We missed the entry deadline last year. But from looking though the entry forms I recall there are different age catagories. Someone else should jump in in a bit.
Good luck at the fair, maybe we'll see you there.

I don't know anything about showing ducks, but wondered what kind of a set up you other Alaskans have for your ducks in the winter. I am a teacher and we've been giving the ducks we hatched in the classroom away for the last few years. I have 9 runner duck eggs in the incubator here at home and I am planning on keeping three of them. We get quite a bit of snow here. Any suggestions you have for putting together a house and pen would be appreciated. I do have a large shed in my back yard with a wood floor, and a large fenced yard. Thanks!

Our entry list for Sept 19/20 came out last week. In yours, as with ours, there should be descriptions of all the classes. That should give you some idea. There will probably be a list of co-ordinators for all departments, so you could get in touch with her/him and ask questions.

I want to know about showing as well. I believe that my fawn runner is possibly one of the most beautiful ducks on the island. But I'm a bit biased. Anyway, I want to know if I should even bother entering her since her neck is almost bald with "lovebites" from my drake.

Last year my ducks were about 4 months old when I took them to show. As long as they have all their feathers they should be ok. I don't know how your fair works but here all I had to do was wash them and make sure they looked pretty. Other than that I don't think there is much you can do.

I had runners last year. For fancy ducks they are judged on characteristics for that breed. For example, a runner should be bottle shaped and not have to much meat on it. I'm not sure about feathers though. Usually ducks have to be shown as a male/female pair.
