Can't find a thread on this so let's do it! I want to start a thread where the experienced silkie keepers give advice about everything related to showing silkies
big_smile.png
ie. all things preparation, grooming, keeping them clean, how to rid those darn yellow stains, what to do at the show, etc!

My first question, I just bought some flock fuel by manna pro. Who has used this and does it work well for preparing them for showing? Any other suggestions?

This is an awesome thread I don't have any silkies but love the breed and I have been wanting to have one of these threads for naked necks and seramas good luck with your showing

Kayla,
This is what I feed all my birds and they have beautiful plumage. I think some of this could help you condition your birds for showing.

Daily-
Poultry Conditioner by Manna Pro - sprinkled as a top dressing
Weekly-
Red Cell - 1 capful in a gallon of water
Apple Cider Vinegar with the "mother" - 1 tablespoon or more per gallon of water
Mashed up hard boiled eggs with dried powdered milk sprinkled on top

So, I might do the Red Cell on Monday, the eggs on Wednesday and the ACV on Friday...and probiotics whenever I remember.

Red Cell for horses....I haven't seen the poultry cell. I took a look at Flock Fuel today when I was at Tractor Supply. It does not have all the vitamins and minerals that Red Cell contains. Flock Fuel seemed to contain more of the omega oils, which is very good for the chickens and the eggs you eat.

I believe several top breeders use Red Cell and some even use Calf Manna added to their feed instead of Poultry Conditioner. I like the smal size bags of Poultry Conditioner...easy for me to store and use. But, I am planning to purchase Calf Manna at some point and switch over. It will be more cost effective in the long run.

I used the poultry conditioner before, but I stopped because it seemed to be causing my splash to yellow. It has a lot of corn. I don't have my splash anymore though so I will try to find it. Can I use the flock fuel with teh red cell and conditioner?

Hmmm....it might be a good idea to go to the feed store and compare the labels side by side. I usually look up this type of thing on the internet, but find it much easier to hold the bottles side by side to do comparisons. Since you bought Flock Fuel, it might be good to figure out which products would compliment it. Then when you run out of Flock Fuel, you can always consider switching over to a new combination if you want.

I bought red cell and a new flock conditioner for exhibition poultry. Now with the mixture of all this is it bad to have them on their high protein food as well? Would they come down with bumble foot? Their food is a multi-flock grower by blue seal with 22% protein. I heard to give this to silkies and just free feed the oyster shells. Should I mix in a lower protein food with it? I also bought a treat for them, harvest delight by manna pro. I also got wazine 17 to deworm them once a month, did that yesterday, and packets of probiotics(going to give them tomorrow).

So all together I have:

Would Grow & Show be okay to mix in with the higher protein multi-flock food? http://blueseal.com/files/brochures/poultry/home-fresh_brochure.pdf

Hmmm...i know of silkie breeders who use the Manna Pro Gamebird feed, which I think is 28% protein. I haven't heard of them having any problems with the high protein. Would you be comfortable using your base feed and putting a different product on it each day as a top dressing? You could rotate through your products? That way they get the best of each product spread out over the week without too much of one thing at any one time.

Yeah that would work. Can I put the red cell in the feed? That is how you give it to horses and it would be easier than the water for me.
