I am hoping to show a couple of my chickens in the winter but was wondering if there were any tricks to get them in top shape for the show. They have been on a high quality diet with plenty of shade and clean water. So they are healthy on the inside, but how I can I really make them shine on the outside. I show horses so I know about every trick in the book for making horses look nice in the show ring, but chickens? Not very much..

How do I get the feather soft and shiny. Is there a showsheen type product or a homemade remedy? What about shining up the comb, wattles, and feet?

Thanks!

What breed?

I wash mine a week before the show and put them in a cage in my dad's shop.

Then
i rub vasoline of their beacks, legs and feet, and if they are a turken or showgirl type i put it on the neck.

Never put an afro sheen on silkies or showgirls it makes them stringy.

Bathe them 2-3 days before the show. That should get the feathers shiny if they are in good health. Maybe feed them some Wheat Germ Oil a week prior to the show. Vaseline or Neosporin will shine up combs, wattles, legs and feet.
