I've shown my Coturnix in the open show at our local fair for the past two years. This year, my daughter as well one of my 4-H club members showed Coturnix as well. They are shown as "Miscellaneous Poultry". They don't compete for Best in Show but they can be named "Poultry Royalty" or "Champion/Reserve Champion Miscellaneous Poultry". The superintendents keep them separated from the other poultry by a 6 foot aisle and only the owner is allowed to handle them. I show them at the fair because it is an opportunity for those of us in the Ag community to display the wide, unique variety of animals that are available. I try to bring as many different varieties as I can in whatever species I am showing (yes, I exhibit other animals too). It's all about public education.
During, and for about 2 weeks after, the fair, I keep all of my animals on vitamin and electrolyte supplements to help combat any illnesses that may be floating around as well as to combat stress issues.
