Just wondered what they look for at a show s when they judge chickens.
Is there a place on this site that tells all the rules and things they look for?
As with dogs do you pretty much need show parents to be most likely to get show babies?
thanks

I recommend you look at the A.P.A Standard of Perfection, they came out with a 2010 updated standard. There you can look at what you need to know.

Also, yes, to get show babies, you need to have show parents, or very close to the standard parents. Sometimes a chick can be different than you wanted: Side sprigs/cross beak/unwanted white feathers/ect.

The APA Standard of Perfection is available for purchase on their website. It is a lovely large book with lots of color illustrations. it's a bit pricey, but well worth the money,

The standard is copyrighted material and the APA never gives permission to reproduce it, so you won't find standards on the internet.

Just the standard for your breed won't help you completely (though it is certainly better than nothing), because there are large sections of the book on general showing, judging, conformation, and disqualifications. You would need to read all of those, too.

Yes, show birds come from carefully bred lines of show birds. Just like dogs, where you are not going to win Best in Show with a mutt you picked up at the pound.
