Has anyone used shredded corn cobs for litter on the coop floor? How did it work? Does it compost well?

I used it as deep litter in my pigeon lofts until it became too pricey for me. I really liked it. It composts relatively slowly for me - about 3 to 4 years to break down in my experience, but I don't 'turn' my pile as frequently as I should.

Back in the day, that's what dad always brought home from the elevator for me to use. It was fairly absorbent and I used a shovel and huge wheel barrow to truck it out to the berries and fruit trees.

I've priced it a couple times over the past few years and found it absurdly high and had to pass. Too bad.
