I am new to all this great chicken stuff. I will be getting my chicks from MPC late July.

I was wondering if anyone ever used shredded paper in the brooder? I have wood shavings but was curious if the shredded paper was also good to use.

thanks,

I have read that there is stuff in the ink on printed paper that is toxic to them. If I had access to plain shredded paper, I would use it.

yes there cannot be any ink. i guess it would work, but pine shavings would be alot better

What most do here is lay a layer of pine shavings down and then put a layer of paper towel over the top of that. Once they start scratching at the paper towel remove it and let them on the pine shavings. They will eat some of it but it won't hurt them. Some just put them directly on pine shavings. I did this time with my meaties and it's been two days...all are alive and well and getting BIG!

Good luck with your babies! Hope you share pictures later when you get them
