We do use it as it is free and diy but

It gets wet quickly and then compacts down to nothing
it sticks to their feet and the birds look daft running about with tassels
it will stick to the Eggs as well
it looks a mess once blown about in the wind.

I prefer Straw
So do the birds as the regularly climb in to the Shed we keep our straw in and make little nest for themselves.
