So I opened up the coop to collect eggs and found one of our hens on the nest box. She made a shrill noise and her neck feathers raised.
Curious about this behavior. Any thoughts?

Do I want to curb this? What I have is an all-female flock of Australorps. They are about 6months old only.

If she's laying already she'll stop when she goes broody. And my Australorps have all been very persistent in sitting on empty nests for way longer than they should (one went 2 1/2 months). If you want to break her, put her in a place that would be uncomfortable to nest. Preferably somewhere bright, open, and even with a wire floor. NO NESTING BOXES! That way she won't have anywhere to nest and will eventually give up.
