Thank you guys for the help! It's still alive and kicking, and it has just popped it's head out and is kicking away! All I'm going to do now is keep dampening the sticky edges where the membrane has stuck to it or where the blood dried. I can't see any obvious yolk sac either and most of the blood vessels seem to have receeded, so here hoping!

If the little guy makes it I'm definetely having a new pet-I couldn't bear anything else!

It's out! And currently rolling around the incubator like crazy-I'd say running but its mostly just rolling xD

The stuff on its butt is a little bit of antiseptic spray- his navel was healed over fine with a little tiny scab, but I just wanted to be sure!
Now we have the wait to see if he's got an infection in his yolk....we'll be out of the woods when he's a week old!
One last question though- will the chick dry off and fluff out on it's own? It's head is dry but not fluffing, should I try and swab away some of the gunk on his feathers or just leave it? I'll probably leave it in the incubator until tommorow morning.

I had one chick that stayed crispy, even after it was completely dry. It was almost as though it's fluff was gelled down. I carefully got it wet with warm water, then used a soft headed tooth brush and very gently brushed it, and it fluffed right out when I did that.

Great news! Gosh you had me worried for a second, I thought it had blood on it's butt! I'm so glad to hear it hatched o.k. Now, before you incubate more eggs sort that temperature out and remember next time to give them time to hatch by themselves, o.k?

I just wanted to post one last time as a kind of epilouge- the chick is well on it's way to becoming a pet! She's eating and drinking all on her own and follows me around when I let her out of the brooder- seeing a little chick thats not even up to your ankle racing after you is hilarious!

More to the point, she's just gotten a new friend! Our broody hen had some half-developed eggs under her when her chicks hatched (mostly likely some hen had snuck it and laid them under her!) and thanks to your links about humidity and such, this one has hatched...all on it's own! It's peeping up a storm in the incubator, I can't wait for it to fluff up and join little Wishmur here!
Thank you so much for the help, I think I'll turn the incubator off for a little while after the last egg has hatched and take a break xD
