Shrink wrapped ducks?? What should I do?

My eight babies ducks are running my life
And they don't bring joy to my lovely wife--
And if I'm not around they peep all day
So let's pack up our flocks and to a farm run away!
Jk lol!! I don't have much land either and am worried about finding homes for a few of mine when they're bigger.

I'm doing the small improvements as I go plan, but will have to lay out 2-3 hundred for a permanent, predator/proof pen because I'm not providing meals for them. Hatching these guys and falling in love with them has made me remember the trauma of raccoons, owls, dogs killing my pets.

Sooo cute!

So hubby is cool with keeping 2, and my mom picked out her two today.. so that leaves 3 that still need a good home. Im trying to figure out what I need to build/come up with for them. we have a fenced in yard. wooden 4 ft tall fence around the whole back yard. Im guessing my yard/patio would be a complete mess if I just let them have the run of it (talking two ducks) and just housed them in a small wooden dog house type deal with a door at night? So they NEED a run, am I right? Im not sure im okay with cutting a hole in the playhouse and filling it with sand and shavings just yet, but we don't have room in the backyard for anything else that will take up a good bit of space. Let me see if I can attach a pic of the back yard and maybe you guys can help me figure this out :)

Yay you can keep 2! R u keeping blue? And pics would be helpful.

Yes! Blue is for sure staying, she's my baby. And my daughter wants to keep who I think is struggler from the second batch.. The smallest of those last 3
YAY!! so glad you are keeping a pair!!!! And it will be a fun project figuring out coop/pen even though it seems stressful now!!! I felt the same way when I first decided to keep 2 of my chicks that hatched...fell in love and did not want to give them up!

Duck owners here should be able to help you figure out what they will need..you have some good room in your yard and I am thinking as long as you have a run and water play area/choice for them, your coop does not need to be very big? You can also see how they mature and behave to decide if you want them to roam the yard. I allow my chickens to roam around in the back and front yard. BUT, I don't leave them out when I am not home to supervise AND you need to know what predator dangers you have in your area. Here it is hawks and coyotes so a run that is predator proof keeps them safe when no one is home.

Just some thoughts..have fun!!!!
