I just realized I didn't lockdown my incubator, so I opened it to pull the egg turner and realized many of them have pipped . I finished what I was doing and put them back since I already oppsied. I added warm water to increase humidity, and sprayed with warm distilled water.is there anything else I can or should do to minimize the damage?. When is it time to start peeling eggshells to save them?

Chris, I recommend you get some fruit (I like banana), cut it up, spread it on a bowl of vanilla ice cream, and spread some chocolate syrup on top. Enjoy that while you are waiting. In other words, relax.

People open their incubator during hatch and often nothing bad happens. Some people do it so much they think nothing bad can happen, but they are wrong. You can shrink wrap chicks that way. But just because you can doesn't mean you will. I do not open my incubator after lockdown unless I have a good reason. There is a risk of shrink-wrapping them. But if I have what I consider a good reason I will open it and take care of the problem. I have had a couple shrink wrap but most do not when I do that. Most of the time it is not a problem.

Worry is interest paid before it is due. I know I can't stop you from worrying but keep your hands off of that incubator. Read up on how you would help a chick if you need to. That's time well spent. But don't touch those eggs until you know you have a problem. You are likely to do more harm that good.

Sounds good. I've hatched several batches but still kinda new. I had good reason to open it, and do t plan on doing it again for at least 24 hours, or when they stop hatching

I regularly open the incubator to remove hatched chicks/ throw out empty shells. it's never open too long, and none of the issues I've had were from shrink wrapping, just chicks that pipped in the wrong part of the shell and got stuck that way.

I'm glad to hear that. My incubator gets pretty crowded before the end and I feel bad about not doing anything about it. It's nice to find out that I can
