Shrinking comb?

I have a 4 year old hen, Maisie, who normally has a missive comb. But, I noticed that every year when she molts, her comb shrinks. Then, in the spring, her comb expands again, and becomes nice and big and red.
This doesn't happen to any of my other chickens. Does this only happen to Maisie because she has such a huge comb? Has anyone else noticed this in their chickens?

This is interesting, I don't have any chickens with a big comb. I'm very curious about this.
