Sicilian Buttercup Rooster or Hen?

Just gotta hang in there. I want some of those now..that comb on the chicks is just too cute.

I know, I was so excited to get her and she was only 58 cents! I hope she isn't a he!! By the way, I just studied her and her tail has some reddish rust colored feathers in it. Is that anything?

Hm, I've only had a male, but red could be a good sign since the boys have black tails? I would google search the breed and look at what the hen/roos look like so you know what your looking for.

That's the trouble! I have been googling them for hours and I haven't found a thing on the chicks!! All anyone talks about is the adults. It's driving me crazy.

Like I said its very hard to tell the gender on chicks till they crow or lay an egg... there are methods that people use like tail/comb size, or vent sexing but even that is mistaken by very experienced people. I think its mostly a game of wait and see...

Ok I've decided she's going to be a beautiful hen. I'm naming her Effie. As in FE, as in Fifty Eight, as in the 58 cents I paid for her. She's very sweet and let's me hold her and goes to sleep, and she smells good. It's weird but she has an almost sweet smell about her, even my kids noticed it. She doesn't smell like a bird.

:hmm i named mine Elphie... named from Wicked but similar names and same kind of chicken. Haha good to hear she smells good, chickens in my experience do not love bathing.

Probably just gonna have to wait and see... It will become easier to tell as time passes on
