I ordered chicks from Meyer Hatchery and ended up getting the adopt me bargain. One of them ended up being a Sicilian Buttercup. I have been reading that they do poorly in the cold. What can I do? I wish I could keep it but I'm not sure if I'm a good enough chicken owner to trust myself with a breed like this. I was thinking that I could sell it at a local fair once it was old enough. How much would you sell it for? If I do keep it what should I do to keep it healthy through the winter?
I live in New Hampshire.

Can you put a heat lamp in your coop? I have one in mine. When I first put my chickens out, it was still cold at night and I had read varying things on what to do when temps are cold at night. So we have a heat lamp out in the coop and if it is really cold we plug it in. We recently put some younger birds out too, 8 week olds, and the heat has been off. Everyone has been warm. Maybe you could try supplemental heat for really cold nights?

Some birds of any breed will refuse to go out in snow & cold- while their hatch mates might love the white stuff. I don't think as a breed all would hide inside. Chickens have down coats and can take cold much better than heat. Also a good run should have a solid cover which will offer some protection from the elements, as well as from raptors and climbing preds.

I think if they don't end up soaking wet - they will be fine in cold weather
