Sick Americana

Also, I just have to say this, because it might work for someone. This past summer our peahen started acting strangely...she'd disappeared for a few days, I assume she went broody somewhere. When she returned, it was obvious something was wrong, and from her symptoms I found from research that she had impacted crop. There was no way I was catching her, I can't even get her to eat from my hand. But I started mixing grit with the feed of all of them, which, of course, she was eating, too (she was eating and drinking ok). And I fed straight crumbles, no grain or anything else. I figured that, yes, grit goes to the gizzard, but I don't know of another way it would get there besides going through the crop first...soo..maybe it would help grind whatever was impacting her crop up, or help it pass.. And...she did get better after a few days. I have no idea if what I did had anything to do with it, but I'm certainly going to try it again if we have another case of impacted crop where the bird is eating Ok. My peahen had probably been eating weed seeds, grass, and other stuff while she was gone, that caused the impaction.
