Hoping someone can help. We have a sick baby chick, starting with sneezing, then lethargy, drinks when we give through a dropper, put on corrid, and started antibiotics last night. She’s now walking around chirping quietly. I pulled what looked like wet food out of the side of her mouth, her poops have gotten smaller as week has gone one to barely anything at this point. She will preen herself. I am scared she is nearing end. It almost seems like she can’t eat
Or swallow food. What else can I do to save her? Sorry for the more frequent posts, I’ve not had a sick chick before.

Is she with the other chicks to see them eating and drinking? On the first day I get them, I dip their beaks into feed crumbles and dip the beak into the water a few times to teach them. Then a little raw mixed up egg can be fed with a dropper. The Corid should be mixed strong 2 tsp per gallon of water or 1/2 tsp per quart for 5-7 days. Coccidiosis is usually not a problem in a brand new chick, but may occur when they are a couple of weeks old. Was it hatched by you, from a breeder, or a feed store or hatchery? How long was it in transit? Has there been any pasty butt? What temperature is the brooder?

Hi! We got 4 of them from a farm that breeds them at one week old, and drove an and an half home in a small box. All were eating and drinking well. It was 3 weeks to the day that we had them that this one started sneezing then became lethargic and stopped eating/drinking. She was a bit smaller but pretty feisty and friendly at first. I started hydro hen then got nutridrench. There was some poop in the water in the past week so I started corrid when she became sick. No signs of pasty butt. The temp was in 90s, then we dropped it each week. It went to about 75-80, and I raised it to stay in the 80s this week when this chick showed signs of illness. She stays near the heat but the rest will sleep all around the brooder. I pulled some food out of her mouth this morning that was on the side of her beak, and her feathers seem to get stuck on her beak/mouth when she preens. Sometimes she makes a swallowing sound/movement when she’s not drinking or eating, or has some spit in her mouth when she opens it. She ate crumbles and scrambled eggs this am. Shes still in a hunched position, pooping a tiny amount. I started antibiotics last night.

What antibiotic is she on? If the person you brought them from has MG in their flock or wild birds, those can spread the disease. It also can be passed through the hatching egg. I have read that MG symptoms can show up in 1-3 weeks. Do you have other chickens? If it has MG, or the others have been exposed, you don’t want to introduce that them. Use good biosecurity handling other chickens. Tylosin in the water can help treat it.

I could only get doxy-ty overnighted. We lost our original flock so these 4 are all we have.. do you think it’s MG? I have heard some little sneezes from the other 3 - should I treat them all with the antibiotic?

Please help. Baby chick seemed to improve and now has declined. Seems to be drooling or not always swallowing. Any help greatly appreciated.
