Sick Baby Chicks...

We have not contacted this lady yet...a phone call will be happening in the morning. She is inspected by our state or so she said when we were there and picked out the chicks. She breeds many different types of birds, chickens, quail, ect... We paid $3 a piece for these chicks. The kids loved the fact that they could pick and choose out of 100 in the brooder box the ones they liked best! And they are dropping like flies now!

She probably is inspected - she couldn't sell like that legally if she weren't. (NPIP program.) But that doesn't mean that she's vaccinating chicks. Honestly, I never did but I didn't sell chicks nor did I have that many, so who knows. I can't really say one way or the other on that one.

But I think it's important that you talk to her in case it did happen with anyone else. She might also have stuff there, readily available, for you to use for them. I like the duramycin idea if you need to treat. Again however don't use yogurt as a probiotic if you do that. pick up acidophilus from the grocery or pharmacy of health food store and use the capsule on their food instead. You will want to do this if you medicate definitely as they're just barely setting up good bacteria in their gut.

It's just so frustrating. Im sorry you're going through this.

3 dollars is a lot to pay for baby chicks! I think I would be on the phone in the morning.I have never paid more than a dollar for mine. I dont sell my chicks for more than a dollar either. Unless their 6 months old or so.

I know that $3 a piece is alot but we have gone chicken crazy around here!!! Now that the new expensive ones are dying I just don't know what to do! My kids are upset as am I! I want to help them but I dont know what to do!

I hatched out 9 of12 eggs this past weekend on sunday. I lost one he had a poopy butt. and he was small and weak. The others are running around like crazy their feeling good. I always start them out on med in their water and then after and hour I introduce some feed. They really dont need food or water for the first couple of days. I give duramycin 10 for 2 weeks .Then just straight water after that. But there is something for sure thats making yours sick. How long have you had them?

What makes me the maddest is that we got an incubator and had 3 chicks hatch, 1 lived (we had a temperature issue which is fixed now), so that living baby chick was put with these now sick chicks...since they were the same size and the incubated chick was great, eating drinking fine, it was happy and lively...then this afternoon, dead...there was nothing to show me it was sick at all, now you look at them and notice issues with the remaining live ones. My hubby just want to get rid of the living, but I dont know if I can do it!!! I don't know what to do!

I dont know. Put them in Gods hands. I dont think I would buy from the same chicken lady again. Move them inside maybe their getting a draft.
