Hi there, I found bloody stool about a week ago in my three month chicks coop. I checked all their bottoms looking to see if I could find evidence of who could have of pooped blood but found nothing and all my chicks acted normally. I’ve kept a watch but haven’t had that happen anymore, but this morning one of my chicks was very lethargic and barely able to stand and she is normally very energetic. I brought her inside and this is her poop. I’m honestly not sure what is wrong. They are on medicated feed to keep away coccidiosis. Any ideas what could be going on? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do you see her eating or drinking at all?
I brought her inside and she drank when I assisted her, but she is mostly resting. She was fine a couple days ago running around. I saw I noticed in her poop a piece of straw or feather from the coop. I did see a few of them eating feathers, which I found strange, maybe she ate straw or that’s a feather in her poo? I’m just at a loss. She isn’t moving around or standing up, very weak.

Sometimes chickens eat weird stuff. How does her crop feel? Does it empty?

She still has a tore up tummy with the weird colored watery poop. I started treating her for coccidiosis, I read that chicks can still get this even on the medicated feed, so I am praying this will help her, and treating the entire flock as a precaution. She was more alert today, and I am making sure she gets the treated water by using a syringe. Still not completely steady on her feet but she is standing and moving around more. Hopefully she pulls through this.

I would treat with Corid, and dosage is 2 tsp of the liquid or 1.5 tsp of the powder per gallon of water for 5-7 days. You also can give 0.1 ml or a couple of drops of the undiluted Corid once a day to jumpstart the treatment. Make sure that she is drinking enough of the treated water.
