Help. My chicken can’t stand up and is laying on her side. What do I do?
She cannot walk stand and is very listless.
:(. She drank a lot but I think because she couldn’t reach the water being so weak.

How old is she? Can you get some Poultry NutriDrench and give her a couple of drops? Do you have any electrolytes or Gatorade that you can give her? Try giving her some chopped egg or tuna, and put a little chick feed in a small bowl and add water to make it runny.

Was she vaccinated for Mareks disease? It could be Mareks, or an injury, or weakness from something like coccidiosis. A chicken sling may be something to try when you get her stabilized. Keep her warm and I would bring her inside.

If you can post a picture of her as she appears now, that might help.

She’s a pullet and we don’t really have maereks here or vaccinate that I know of. She has eaten and drank a few mins ago she is inside. She’s asleep again. I do t have nutridrench to hand but she had some egg and a bit of seed

Where are you located? Mareks is pretty much all over the world, but it may be less likely in your area. Has she been able to stand or walk since she has eaten? You can use Gatorade, pedialyte, or add 1 tsp of sugar and a pinch of salt to a liter of water to make some electrolytes. Chick vitamins would be good to use as well, or a combo of vitamins with electrolytes.

What do her poops look like? Coccidiosis can be a problem in younger chickens, and it can cause decreased appetite, weakness, runny poops with mucus or sometimes blood specks, lethargy, and a hunched appearance. Amprollium or Corid is the treatment for coccidiosis.

Let us know if she still cannot stand or walk, since Mareks frequently strikes younger chickens. It is a virus that can cause a wide variety of symptoms including lameness. Here is some reading about it:

Ok Bermuda is where we are . Her poops are normal ish but a bit gloopy like a melted marshmallow

I will try electrolytes she still isn’t standing although she did try a couple times

I hope that she continues to improve. If you choose to treat her for possible coccidiosis, you might look for Coxoid, a brand of amprollium use in the UK. It may come from a vet or an animal feed store, not sure.

Sadly she died this morning. :(
I’m going to take her to the vet to see why on Monday. Thanks for the help anyway.
