Turkey Update...

The hen is much better and does not twist up anymore. Yeah! However, she walks with a list and her head is cocked. As a result, the other turkeys piled on and beat the tail feathers off her when I tried to put her back with the flock. So she has become my experimental test case and is now living with the chickens. The good news is she now can run around wherever she wants..barn, lawn, horse pasture. The risk is that we have had chickens for a long time and have brought in chickens from places we probably should not have when we were new, naive, and anxious for different types of birds. So, here's to hoping we dont have blackhead or something else diabolical in our chicken flock.

Her list also affects her balance so she can't fly up on to roosts. I have been putting her on some low rafters in the barn. Tonight I had to work late and when I got home I found her roosting on the ground out in the open. Not safe around here. Too many bobcats and skunks. She is in the barn now, up and safe.

I am giving her a vit E every other day now, and she still gets poultry multi vitamins in her water. I hope she will get back to flying soon.

Keeping my feathers crossed for her!

It seems to me that Blackhead is in some areas and not in others... I am in ND and never had problems with it. The only problem that I got bringing in chickens (in my naive days) was a bad case of leg mites (the birds, not me!)
