One of my Brahmas, Metrowizard, started making a croaking sound today. It sounds like a respiratory issue.

I took her to the vet this morning and they gave me antibiotics for her. I only took her to my local vet, not my avian vet (which is further away), so I wanted to hear what other people thought it might be.

I took a video of the croaking sound she keeps making.

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like a respiratory issue.
Definitely sounds like some soupy congestion.
Eyes look pretty clear, any bubbles in eyes or runny nostrils?

so I wanted to hear what other people thought it might be.
Can't know exactly what it is without a cultured swab.
Does her breath have an odor?
What AB did the vet give, dosage, duration, delivery, etc?

@Eggcessive is good with this stuff.

Thanks for the reply.

She does have a few small bubbles around her eyes every so often.

The vet gave me enrotril, to give her orally. They said to give her 1.1 mL daily. I think there's six or seven doses.

Your hen sounds like she has crackles (rales) and an occasional snick or sneeze. It is possible that she has one of a handful of respiratory diseases, such as mycoplasma (MG.) What antibiotic is she on? Several can treat symptoms of MG. Make sure that she has a coop with good ventilation and try to minimze dust or any wet conditions.

Enrofloxacin is a good choice for treating MG. You would want to avoid eating her eggs for a few weeks to be safe. Bubbles in an eye are a symptom of MG. Here is a good article about MG, a common disease in some backyard flocks:
https://extension.umd.edu/sites/extension.umd.edu/files/_docs/programs/poultry/FS-1008 Recognizing and Preventing Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) Infecti....pdf

She's not a regular layer anyway, but I won't eat them just to be safe. I separated her from the rest of my flock. How long do you think she has to stay separate?

Thanks so much for the help :)
