Sick chick help!

Also I really would not like to lose any chicks this soon since this is my first time ever owning them. I did a ton of research and I'm very prepared......for when they're hens. I really don't want to lose any my first time

For whatever it is worth the only people who have never had a baby chick up and die on them are the people who have never owned baby chicks.

Forget those stylized pictures on funeral home advertising fans and calendars. Baby chicks die and disappear all the time. It's what they do best!

If you beat yourself up about it you'll go through all of your chicken keeping life black & blue.

Enjoy the little peepers while you got them because all to soon they either die or else grow up.

Hi I'm 14 and my parents said if I wanted chickens then they would be completely my responsibility so I'm taking care of them. I just got my chicks 5 days ago and their already growing so much. I got the RIRs and two striped black ones. They seem to be doing ok but one is tired all the time compared to the others. I just noticed it today and its eating from what I can tell. For the most part it lays down a lot and let's the others pile on top of it without even budging. Should I separate it from the others?

Chicks sleep a lot, some more than others. Your chicks may be cold if they are piling up to sleep, and being 5 days old they should kept at around 95 degrees.

You can decrease the heat by 5 degrees a week. You will know if they are too warm as they will move as far from the heat source as possible. It is okay if they lay directly under it as long as they are not piling up, that would mean they are still cold and the light needs to be moved closer to them. Ideally they will lay just around the perimeter of the heat source. Good luck with your babies!

Right now the brooder that I have them in is a large storage container with a heat lamp but lately the chicks have been getting along better and are very active. Today they are two weeks old and they were hopping around and one even landed on my head!
How large is the area for the chicks?
