Help!!! We just started with out first ever flock. Got 6 chicks about a week ago. The one chick had a red toe when we got it home and now it looks like it is getting pretty bad. She was pretty active until today. Now she kind just lays in the corner and the other chicks are starting to peck at her. She is still eating and drinking, but she is now limping on the bad foot. The tip of the toe is scabbing up and the rest of her foot is a little red. Any advice here? A picture of the foot and toe are attached.

Thanks,
Scott

I think this chick is going to pull through. The redness in her foot, which I assume was an infection, has gone away. She seems to be feeling much better and is no longer limping on the hurt foot. I assume she is going to eventually lose the tip of toe that was infected.

What did you do? Mine is having the same thing except that the whole toe is red. It's not as bad as yours right now though. Please help.

Ours eventually pulled through and is doing fine. Half the toe did eventually just fall off and she is just as happy and healthy as the rest of the flock. I don't know if the fact that we were feeding the chicks medicated feed for the first few weeks helped her through the infection, but as I said she pulled through and is none-the-wiser that she is even missing half a toe. The chicks are about 9 weeks old now, have moved out to their coop and are growing like weeds.
