I woke up and went in to check on the chicks. My favorite chick a SS is puffed up and when I put her to my ear I hear a click when she takes a breath and a click when she exhales. No gurgling just click. She looked good at bed time nothing different about her then. She looks puffed up and very asleep. Even when I picked her up she went right asleep.
The chicks left the hatchery (RB) on Wed 7-30 and got to me on 8-1. Right now all the other chicks are running around flappping wings and look great no click when breathing..
I mixed and offered her some of the chick grow gel but she didn't eat any. The first day she loved it and I even gave her alittle bit Sat 8-2.
She seems a little smaller than the other chicks maybe due to her breed.. She is the only SS to have survived shipping. I ordered 5 in total of that breed. 16 total chicks to include 7 Buff O and 5 Barred R. Only 3 of the BR survived shipping.
As I am new to chickens I don't have any meds on hand. Didn't think I would need them this soon.
I love her already and don't want to lose her. Its funny just how quick you can love them when your the mother hen.

Update: She died this morning. Can anyone tell me what was wrong it case it happens to the other chicks?

It's difficult to know. It could have been the stress of shipping. Did you have them vaccinated before they left the hatchery? Most small flock owners don't...I just wondered. Certainly you are concerned for the others...I would be too. I think the only thing you can do is keep an eye on them. It could even have been an undetected birth defect of some kind.
