Hi,

I just hatched a Pavlovskaya yesterday. He's a little smaller than the other chicks, and he sleeps all the time. I don't think he cuddled with the other chicks last night, and I don't know what's wrong with him. He's swaying and opening and closing his beak, and he cheeps occasionally. His eyes are closed. I don't know if he's cold, or sick, or what. All suggestions and information is vastly appreciated. Please help.

Have you given him any vitamins and electrolytes?

Egg yolk can work wonders. If you scramble up the yolk, dip your finger in, and touch it to his beak. Lots of chick nutrients since it’s what they live off of the first few days. Do it a few times, until he stops making a chewing motion with his beak, then give him a break, and repeat every 30 mins to 1 hour.

If you have any human vitamin B capsules you can open these and add some to the eggyolk mixture.
If the chick is less than 24 hours old, I would put it back in the incubator if you don’t have other chicks in there. Sometimes it just needs a little more time. It technically doesn’t need to eat or drink yet. It may need more warmth. You can put a small towel or stuffed animal in with it.🙂
