Sick chick?

My 2 week old copper Maran seems to be on the lethargic side compared to my other chicks. She does walk around some and seems to be pecking at the chick starter but doesn’t move around very much and is often closing her eyes. When held she just leans to one side and lays in my hand. Any suggestions? Temp of the brooder seems ok.

I'd try giving her a supplement like Nutri-Drench or Sav-A-Chick...may help perk her up. Has she always been like that? Is her poop normal, crop full?
I only got her a day and a half ago and I didn’t notice her to be off initially. Her poop is normal. Her crop feels ok maybe on the empty side. I went out and came back and she was lying on her side with one wing out and I thought for a moment she may be dying. Then she got up when I stirred them up and was sitting back in a strange way on her bottom with her wings out slightly like as if she was trying not to use her legs. I picked her up and her tone was terrible in her wings and legs she just lay in my hand. I offered some chick starter and she pecked at it then seemed to perk right up then was up and about eating. I will pick up some nutri drench in the morning and try that. I have had chicks a couple times before but no issues so it’s all new to me.

I avidly recommend the nutridrench or sav a chick! Give her dropper drops at the tip of her beak and she should automatically swallow.

What's your brooder/heat set up? What your describing sounds a lot like an overheated possibly dehydrated bird.

Hi i also agree, with give the above. Sounds as if the others has pushed her out,
and she needs something extra. Try her with scrambled egg, and a touch of fresh
parsley, chopped up fine. Have you noticed the others, picking on her.??? If you
do, separate her, if you can, only until she is stronger. Maybe she is laying that way,
because others fell on her, and she is bruised. You said, when she had some chick starter
off you, she perked right up. Sounds as if she is just feeling weak, and finds comfort laying that way. bless her. Let us know how she gets on. Fingers crossed. :thumbsup

That’s what I was thinking too but the brooder is at 85 and she seems to mainly stay right under the lamp when at rest.
How much nutri drench do I give just a drop? It says 1ml for 3 pounds.

She is only in with 2 other chicks and they all seem to get along well. I will try the egg and parsley. Thanks!

Yup, one drop every 8-10 hours. You can also add some to her regular water.

How's the baby today?

Thanks, I got it figured out! She seemed even worse this morning and wouldn’t eat even with me putting food right to her mouth. Was hardly moving around at all and no peeping. I got some vitamins and yogurt into her and added some vitamins into the water. She perked up a little pretty quick and I took her out to feed her separately a couple times. Now she seems to be right back to normal hopping around, eating, pooping and peeping haha. A huge relief! Thanks so much for the advice :)
P.S. Notice how I very optimistically refer to said chick as “she”lol

That is great! I'd keep supplementing in her water for a few days but it sounds like she's going to be okay!

- Notice I share your optimism? I believe! :fl:yesss:

ETA- I'd keep an eye on the group. There might be a reason she ended up that way; maybe she's not asserting herself at the food and water dishes or getting pushed out and ended up with a deficiency. I hope not, might just be a fluke but just in case you'll be able to intervene before it can happen again!
