Hi there, I have a chicken that looks like she swallowen a golf ball. Her head isn't moving back and forth and she's really still. Last night I put her in a cage in my home. I have held her and rubbed the golf ball spot but she's still not ok. A friend suggested olive oil and water. So I used a dropper and gave to her. Can anyone give me more info. Thanks, sick chick mom

Hiya, read the sticky at the top of the page and answer the basic questions- age, breed, set up will be helpful in answering. Also how long have you had her, where did she come from ect. Where is the lump- describe location and feel (hard soft ect).

Hi, she is 1 year old in May and this is the first time I've raised chickens. I have nine chickens laying eggs fairly regular, ordered by mail. She is black with a white fluffy hat on top of her head, a type of polish chick. the golf ball is hard but I can move it. Thanks, sick chick mom

Sounds like sour crop or impacted crop--if you open up her mouth and smell a sour smell, it's sour crop...if not, it's probably impacted crop. Is it on her chest area, a few inches under neck? If so, here's what you want to do. Good that you already separated her. Take her food away for now. Give her a dropperful of olive oil and massage her crop...I mean massage it good for atleast 10 minutes. Place her back in her cage with just water to drink(no food)...you want her to completely empty her crop. She could have bedding or something else stuck in there and needs to pass it. I once had a chicken have this and she had eaten some pine shavings...after lots of olove oil and massages, she passed all the pine and is a happy girl now!

now, if it's sour crop, let us know...
