First off let me start that I am new to chickens. Two weeks ago I got 4 chicks that were about two and and half weeks old. This last Sunday one of the chicks started acting weird. I noticed she wasn't moving around much and was just sleeping. Normally she is up moving around with the other three chicks. I put her in a different box by herself. She just stands there, doesn't move around much, doesn't really eat or drink. I put her back int the box with the other chicks and got vitamin and electrolyte powder for their water, she drinks some. I started crushing her medicated feed up and putting it with water and force feeding her. She is not growing and doesn't stretch out her legs, wings, or neck anymore. I don't know what is wrong with her. Help! Any ideas???

Keep feeding the medicated food and giving her electrolyte water. I would also recommend keeping her with the other chick's, so that she does not become over stressed by being by her self. If she becomes too stressed, it could cause her problem to get worse. I'm not sure why she isn't really moving around. It seems odd for a new baby chick to do that. Try to keep encouraging her to eat and I hope she gets better. If you have any other questions, ask away.

Thanks for the advice! Up until last Sunday she was very energetic and all over, eating all the time and growing. I don't know what's going on. If she were I'll would she have made it this long?

Oh I know same here. Its actually sad to see her like this and I wish she would get better. Wish I knew what to do for her.

She passed away last night. Do I need to clean the pin they are in? She was with other chicks.

Look up information for Coccidiosis and become familiar with symptoms and treatment. watch all your other chicks carefully for any signs it might be cocci. Coccidiosis is the leading cause of death among chicks, but is easily controlled using a coccidiostat such as Corid(amprolium). Medicated feed will do nothing for a Coccidiosis overload/outbreak.

Some symptoms are: runny/watery poop(may or MAY NOT contain blood, depends on which strain it is)fluffed feather, lethargic, not eating/drinking. If symptoms match, purchase Corid(amprolium)dose for Corid 9.6% liquid is 2 tsp per gallon of water, dose for Corid 20% powder is 1-1.5 tsp per gallon of water. Treat ALL chicks for 5 days. Do NOT give vitamins during treatment as they interfere with the ability of coccidiostat to work, give vitamins after treatment is complete. Make sure medicated water is the only source of drinking water.

Clean brooder/feed dishes/water bowls with a diluted ammonia solution as bleach will not kill coccidia oocysts, ammonia will.

I hope the rest will be okay.

I lost one of my babies during the night.. He/she was a little BCM and was only 4 days old. However, it was the runt of the group and I should have recognized that earlier. This is the first time I have ever had day old chicks to raise. Had 9 BCM and 6 Silkies... The others that I have growing are EEl and they are going on 5 wks. I take them outside during the day and into a small dog yard where I can see them. Its not the best as predator proof but its what I have. My EE were at least a week when I got them so I didn't have the tiny babies to begin with. I think this one just couldn't hold his own in the crowd as they moved around the bin. Found it several times by itself.. My heart breaks when I see a living thing die.yes its just an animal but it was a baby in my care...I should have recognized it and should have given it more individual care to help it catch up!!!!! So mad at myself...
