Sick chicken – need advice!

With a new young flock addition, she could have any number of illnesses, worms, coccidiosis, intestinal disease, or others. Lice can be found around and under the vent as well. Permethrin dust or spray used at 10 day intervals can be helpful to get rid of lice. If you can get your local vet to agree to do a fecal float on some fresh droppings, that could be very helpful. A gram stain on droppings would also be good to rule out enteritis. Gatorade or pedialyte are also good for electrolytes, and many of the chicken products have noth vitamins and electrolytes. SaveAChick, Durvet, and Rooster Booster are some of the brands that have them. I hope she continues to look better.

If you decide to go ahead and treat for coccidiosis, get Corid liquid or powder from your local feed store or TSC. Dosage is 10 ml (2tsp) of the liquid or 1.5 tsp of the powder per gallon of water for 5-7 days. SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer dosage, if you decide to worm her, is 1/4 ml (0.25 ml) per pound given for 5 consecrutive days.

We made her appointment at the vet for this morning but sadly she died right before her appointment:( thank you everyone Who tried to help!

I am very sorry for your loss. Many times they hide their illness very well, and it can be late in the game when we see symptoms. She looked very sick. A necropsy by your state vet would give you an answer why shy died. Some of us do a brief necropsy at home, looking at the abdominal organs for any obvious signs of illness. If you do that take pictures and post them here. Here is a list of state vets to contact newr you, and a video that shows the abdominal organs:
