2 of my chickens had crops dragging on the floor. The vet couldn't do anything but they seemed happy, eating and pooping ok. A specialist bird vet however said they need to operate to see why and discovered that their crops were full of Sand and no nutrition was getting through. He did operate a couple of months ago and $600 later and one seems ok however her crop has enlarged again but my little black hen is so sick now. These two just won't stop eating the sand We found her tonight under the hen house unable to move as her crop is so absolutely full of sand again. She is vomiting too as I think she has tried to drink and it's just not getting through. I think I will have to put her down if she survives the night. I just can't afford the vet again nor do I want her to suffer.
The vet did ask if there was sand in their coop and said it was not good.
