this is my first post and I'm sad to say it's not a good one. :(. I have 5 hens and one is looking like a hot mess. I have done some reading and seems she might of had a case of the nasty butt !! I gave her a salt bath, yogurt , ACV, and clipped some feathers. She was doing better until this AM Her comb is pale and her feathers are looking rough. :( any advice ?? My husband may make me move into the coop if I call out a vet $$$$$$. My other hens are thriving and looking fabulous.
Thanks for taking the time to read :(. I hope I can make her feel herself again.

Welcome to BYC. Are these hens who have been laying, and may perhaps be in the middle of a molt? Do you have any pictures? Hens can have messy vents from runny poops, anatomy differences, excess feathers, or illness. If she looks like she is losing feathers, pale, and not laying eggs, she may be molting. Pale combs can also be from mites, so give her a thorough exam for mites or brown specks on her skin.

Many people sell chickens at the end of their first season of laying in the fall around molt time. Molt can last 1-2 months while they grow new feathers. Make sure that she is eating a balanced chicken feed (layer if she is laying,) or all flock/flock raiser (if she is not.) Give her a little chopped egg for a treat. A tsp of plain cultured yogurt or probiotics twice a week can help with intestinal health. It also may be good to worm her now, and Valbazen or SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer are very food ones from your feed store. Check back for dosage.

Thank you so much for the posts. !! This is a wonderful group. I'll take a picture as soon as I get home. She's not laying eggs so molting may Be what's going on. She's was the first hen to lay eggs!! So Is it possible she's molting before the others?? I'll for sure check out a wormer !! Thanks again.
