My Rhode Island Red Chicken is walking very slowly. I let the Hens out of the coop and the others jump out for the food when she stood on the ramp to get out. She made a very quite high pitch noise while on the ramp. I picked her up and put her on the ground and then she walked a little bit but very slowly then just looked around. Her head is completely down to where she has no neck. And she wouldn't eat food in the morning when I put it near her face. Please Help I don't know if she's sick for a day or gonna be sick for a while. All I have fed them was turkey slices and the chicken food from like the wilco store. Do I need to feed her more veggies???

No you do not need to feed it more veggies. It sounds sick for sure. When you picked it up---how did its weight feel compare to the others its age/size?

I always keep tylan50 and if I get one acting sick with no other signs(very light, very heavy, etc) I start giving it tylan50 oral twice a day for a few days.

She is the lightest one in the flock. After a few hours of her being sick her head is stretched out just a little. She is still very slow compared to all the other Hens. I might have to get tylan50 just in case then cause we do have HorseTail which I've heard is bad for them in our yard and sourounding the pen. And I try to pick them out everyday to make sure they won't grow enough to where they can reach them.

I have had some over the years that were like bones with feathers---very light weight, after having a necropsy done when I was loosing a lot at one time----they were loaded with worms---tape worms. Now if I get a boney one I worm and in a few days they act a lot better and start putting on weight.
Symptoms of mine were they eat good up to the last---then they just sit there--moving slow and very little---unstable on their feet---then they die soon. After learning what the problem was with the ones tested. I now worm if I even think they might be got worms. I worm if I notice a decrease in weight. I have not had a chicken to die in a long time, BUT the only real way to know for sure is to get a necropsy done---but if you are like me----I am not going to spend a lot on a chicken to have it tested-----the only reason I had the necropsy done was loosing about 8 in a few days, ended up being 28 by the time I got my results back-----and that's a lot but only a small % of the 1000+ I had at the time-----could have been bad----If I had not had it done----I would probably have lost 100's.

Paige and Hens, how old is she? When one is lethargic and hunched with the neck drawn back in, sometimes coccidiosis can be a problem. What do her droppings look like? Coccidiosis can cause runny poops with mucus or blood. They also will not eat. It is treated with Corid (amprollium) in the water for 7 days at 1 1/2 tsp per gallon of water. Will she drink some water when you hold a little cup up to her beak or sit her in front of some? Try to see if she will eat some chopped egg or tuna. There can be a number of things that could be her problem, and if you could get some fresh droppings checked by a willing vet for cocci or worms, that might get you an answer.

She is 1-2 years old. Thank you for your reply but she is fine now, She is eating and drinking normally but not as fast as the others, Idk if she's sick or just cause she's always been the 'omega' in the flock.

Thanks for your reply but she is good now!

Good to hear that she is better. If you can make sure there is food and water in a couple of different spots, that sometimes helps the meeker ones to get enough, in case she was weak or dehydrated. Keep watch in case of coccidiosis symptoms, or perhaps, think about worming her with Valbazen or SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer or Equine paste. I can give a dosage if you need it.
