Even if you are giving layer feed, they will always need a calcium supplement available (which is usually oyster shell).
But even when you have a supplemental calcium source available, they can still end up with a deficit or there might be an internal reason that their eggs aren't forming or passing normally. I've been learning a lot the last few months from reading threads about irregular eggs.
