I am a 14 year old boy who has 12 hens as pets very worried one of them has become life-less, wings are drooping, will not eat, off balance very bad, closes eyes most of the way a lot of the time, sits or lays on her side most of the day will not walk aroun. I need help do not want to loss her. Does not seem to have worms or mites. Any help?

If she will not eat grab a thing of water and put her beak into and try to make her drink. If she won't open her mouth open it for her and try to get a little water down her. Make sure you don't pour it down her throat i don't know if it's bad but I wouldn't. I have had several hens do this before some survived some died. I don't know what cause of it and how to stop it. Make sure she's not too hot and put food and water next to her so if she feels up to eating she can without moving. ALso be with her as much as you can. Make sure you do NOT stress her out.

Good luck! I hope she makes it!!!

Devon, it's hard to know why they are sick. But if your hen is 3-4 months old or less, I would treat for coccidiosis (Corid). If she is older, I would check around the property and see if she could have eaten something bad. Have you checked to see if she has an egg stuck? What color is the poop?

I have kind of checked for a stuck egg but I did not feel one and I do not think there is anything she could have gotten in to her poop is green and white and has a clear water substance on top of it

Bright green poo usually means that they have used up all their stored fat.
She may have something you have no control over either.
Some things are easier to figure out than others.

Do you know of anything that coyld help that I could give her? The poo is not all green and not real bright.

Does she have any odor or liquid coming from her nose?

Could she be over-heated from hot weather in your coop or run? How old is she, and how long have you had her? Do you have any electrolytes, SaveAChick, or Poultry Nutridrench that you could give her in her water? Could she have gotten something like long pieces of grass stuck in her crop or gizzard? Can you feel of her crop, and tell us if it is hard, full, soft, or empty?

Thank you everyone for all your advice we tried everything but sad to sy she passed today. I will never know praying my other 11 do not get what ever it was she had. So far so good.
