I am a first time chicken owner, I have two at the moment, but maybe not for long. About four or five days ago my chicken started to become withdrawn and wasn't eating very much. She pretty much stopped eating entirely now. My husband and I FINALLY found a vet who would see her. He couldn't figure it out as she didn't have any sign of sinus issues, and her vent, temp etc looked good, other than being very very thin. He gave her an antibiotic shot and gave us a tube of supplement to hand feed her. She perked up slightly after the shot and after we spent a long time hand feeding her the supplement slowly. She even went and drank a little water. Today when we opened her coup she did not come out. I hand fed her again, and will do so in a couple more hours. She did not perk up at all after I fed her this morning. I don't think she's going to make it, she's so thin. I don't know what else to do. Any thoughts or suggestions? She has only laid two eggs, so she's still pretty young. She is a Black Australorp. My other chicken is a Silver Penciled Plymouth and has not laid any eggs yet, but is probably no more than a few more weeks away from it. She is very healthy and very active still. I love my birds like I love my dogs and cats. I am so sad as I don't know what else I can do to help her.

Im so sorry... We just experienced the same thing this past Monday night. She was wheezing, moving slow, barely eating... she perk up tuesday and wednesday but then her health sharply declined and she died thursday afternoon. I thought she just needed rest but it was crazy how fast she went. Keep your sick chicken away from the healthy one because if she has a virus your healthy chicken might catch it and die too. :(

I'm not sure how to get rid of the disease but if she is still at a young age and she comes through you should definitely get her vaccinated to prevent any more diseases she might later on get.
:( I hope she comes through. I would give her table scraps and veggies to make her feel loved.

No, he didn't. But they've gotten Verm-X prior to this. Also, she isn't going to the bathroom at all.

Verm-X isnt a wormer, it's useless. I suggest that you give her some applesauce, it acts as a mild laxative in chickens. If that doesnt work, molasses mixed in water should work. Then you can take a fecal sample back to the vet.
Here's a link regarding Verm-X:

I have been giving her applesauce, but nothing is happening. I literally have to open her mouth and squirt a small amount in with a plunger. Because she hasn't been drinking water either ( I have to use a dropper) I'm worried if I do make her go to the bathroom it will just dehydrate her further and get rid of the small amount of water I have been able to get into her.
